The Canadian Prime Minister’s Response to Our Petition

Sheila Clark just received this response from the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office to an email she had sent him that contained our petition. It’s heartening to know that there are those who aren’t so conflicted and congested by their political correctness, anger at a government, leader, etc., that they can take a stand for what is right, in their rational self-interest and in the best interests of humanity:

On behalf of the Prime Minister, thank you for your correspondence regarding the situation in Iraq.  We appreciated the opportunity to review your comments and have taken note of your concerns.

Since early 2014, the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has been carrying out a campaign of unspeakable atrocities against innocent children, women and men, as well as religious minorities in Iraq.  Specifically, it has tortured and beheaded people, raped and sold women into slavery, slaughtered minorities and kidnapped innocent victims whose only crime was to have a different set of beliefs than ISIL. We know from experience that terrorist groups such as ISIL cannot be permitted to gain control of a territory in which they are then able to train and prepare for further attacks in the region or against the international community.

Last summer, when ISIL stood on the brink of committing genocide in Northern Iraq, Canada’s allies, led by U.S. President Barack Obama, intervened.  We joined this response by offering humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Iraqi people.  We also provided Canadian Armed Forces specialists to offer advice to security forces in Iraq on battling the terrorists, and provided aircraft to transport weapons and supplies to fight ISIL.

As you know, on October 7, the House of Commons voted to authorize participation in air strikes against ISIL, joining other countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Jordan and many others.  This motion includes the commitment of up to six CF-18 fighter aircraft as part of a strike force.  It also sets out continued assistance to Iraq and other allies in the areas of ongoing advice to security forces, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and aircraft refueling.

To be clear, Canada’s engagement in Iraq is not a ground combat mission.  It includes a number of targeted measures, being taken with allies, to severely limit the ability of ISIL to engage in full-scale military movements and to operate bases in the open.

The military measures we are taking are helping to provide security on the ground and degrade the capabilities of ISIL.  These actions are necessary to ensure that effective humanitarian assistance is provided and reaches those most in need.  Canada is proud to be the 7th largest contributor to assist in this crisis, providing food, hygiene kits, cooking materials, blankets, tents, medical supplies and other essentials including emergency repairs to water and sanitation facilities.  We are also providing emergency shelters and medical assistance to thousands of Iraqi civilians.  This is in addition to large-scale financial assistance to other governments in the region impacted by the crisis in Syria.  Rest assured we remain committed to working closely with our allies to determine how best we can continue to support the needs of Iraqis, including religious minorities.

Left unchecked, ISIL is a threat not only to peace and security in the region, but to global security as well.  They have already voiced their local and international terrorist intentions and identified Canada as a potential target.  It is imperative that we act with our allies to halt ISIL’s spread in the region and reduce its capacity to launch terrorist attacks outside the region, including against Canadians.  Our Government has a duty to protect Canadians and shoulder our burden in efforts to combat such threats.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to write.

Sincerely,

Prime Minister’s Correspondence Unit

It is something.

Ev

well done, Sheila!

Ev

is there information or how to direct a thank you to the Prime Minister’s Correspondence Unit for their response on this matter? Sounds like a silly question but I do think it’s a good thing to say thanks and am wondering what is the best way.

Ev

I’m still getting hammered on the post I made……… oh well, I will keep replying with a level head at the vicious comments being flung. Guess it’s good training, in some respect. :p

Ev

MH, I am not getting email comment updates even though it says I am subscribed to this blog post, is there something I can do about it?

Sheila

It’s great training for women who are easily hurt, it toughens them up. Just remember that it’s their opinion and is not based on reality. You go girl!

Just watch and observe with neutrality. 6 Canadian jets is nothing against 100,000 soldiers and +3billion USD of weapons. Look at WWI trench warfare and the big guns shelling the trenches for 2 years. If I were a military leader protecting my political bosses I would use ISL to attack Russia inside Russia, keep ISL out of Ukraine, and work with Iran to contain ISL in/around the Middle East. I would let ISL weaken Syria Assad’s regime and build up another group to take out Assad that is not inline with ISL. I would also get a coalition together to give an appearance of taking out ISL but I would target areas out of bounds I think are not conducive to my agenda, which is, to weaken Russia. This way I have a coalition doing the war fighting , wins on appearance to the public and the leaders of coalition forces and wins on directing where I want ISL to go. Making a deal with Iran is better than have them as an adversary now, and if I can get Iran even an inch away from an Alliance with Russia that would be even better. Once I get ISL onto Russia I will seak more sanctions and make Ukraine a HUGE deal again – I would do all I can step by step to weaken Russian influence in the United Nations and make appearances to our NATO allies we are wining a new democracy for the world, the days of totaltarianism are over – that would be my speach. SO NOW LETS SIT BACK AND WATCH – there really is nothing we can do other than speak out on the issue of ISL – and – step by step people who make decisions for us without us will start to listen as failure and fear of losing their hi power jobs become reality over time. AND, with coalition forces in my back pocket I have insurance if I have to I can take out ISL whenever I want, or , whenever ISL stops being productive for my agenda. Sorry I think like a Special Services Boss , guess can’t stop old habits. In the end we will be fine, stay positive, we have many lessons to learn going forward and it is exciting times.

What ?!

Sheila

No offense Bob, but why do you want to continue poking the bear (as per Marko’s post on the previous thread)?

Luis Sanchez

I think any rational mind would agree that this is progress.

Don Schneider

Thanks Sheila, a response from Canada in that tone means they’re taking the threat seriously!
Salome!

Darcy Wade Carlile

Would they not take it seriously, Prime Minister Harper is head of state in Canada. Wasn’t there a warning that Michael Horn was advocating about 4 heads of state are killed within a week, and that a World War would sure to follow only 2 years from that. I think it is more a national security issue and those folks should help to convince Mr. Harper to listen to that Canadian petition Sheila sent them.

“Once again, thank you for taking the time to write.
Sincerely,
Prime Minister’s Correspondence Unit”

Them too!

I was surprised they took the time to write all that out back to Sheila/someone. Maybe because it was an important subject or maybe because of something that Sheila said or both.

Sheila

I’ve always received a reply before so this is not anything out of the ordinary. On a few occasions I’ve received a response by mail.

Luis Sanchez

Senate just approved defense budget to battle ISIS.

Sheila

Luis Sanchez

Thank you for taking action. I personally appreciate a women who takes action.

This engagement cannot be successfully fought without boots. Boots in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, and expanding everyday. This cannot be won by drones and planes firing from miles away. To a large organization like the IS, that’s the irritant approach, and it will seriously piss off the Muslim population. The only way to meet the objective of removing the IS from influence is with men on the ground. This, what the Canadian Prime Minister proposes, is a weak response, and is just what the Islamic State wants. It plays right into their hands.

Michael Helfert

You are an optimist, Michael. I hope you’re right.

It seems to me that the IS has already anticipated how the rest of the world will react, most especially how the Western nations will react, and they are counting on the typically confused reaction by the West which slowly builds to a crescendo just in time to go to war with a newly-founded Islamic Caliphate. These guys may be loony, but they aren’t fools. They are strategists. Right now, it seems to me, the West is doing exactly what they want us to do: driving the Muslim population into their arms.

So, the race is on, whether the IS can build support and consolidate power before the World reacts to the scale of their intentions with a real response. If the IS establishes statehood, then forces itself to be recognized by the states around it, then most likely the spread of radical Islam around the world to fanatacizable young men without other opportunities in life, most likely this will happen. Considering the foreseeable economic climate, if this ball gains momentum, it will roll down hill of its own accord. Indonesia will be the wake call, but by then, I dare say, it may be too late.

It’s not too early to start to think of contingency planning for FIGU associated folks.

Darcy Wade Carlile

I now for fact that Mike is not an optimist because that noun is defined as a belief http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/optimist

Sheila

Hi Michael, do honestly think the plan of action would be given to a citizen so they can post it on the internet?

Chris L

Good one, Sheila. We need more, but it’s a good step forward.

Sheila

It was Michael’s words that I used, so thank Michael for his eloquent words which I stole to present to my PM. Thank you Michael! Also April has been instrumental in bringing forward a petition to present to our PM.

erik

its good you tried Sheila, but its hopeless

Check out this now.

Last I heard the US was using lazer cannons to knock out IS. Wonder how effective those lazer cannons are? When I saw them on the groumd, looks like they weren`t much good. Those cannons look like left overs from the first Gulf War in 1991?

Terry

Sorry for that comment. I was in bed all week with a very bad back which turned into a pinched nerv but I`m finally getting betterbut I still can`t bend. Sorry about that.

Darcy Wade Carlile

Great work Sheila and April and Michael.

Sheila

Consider yourself a part of it Darcy.
